IS continues to target Shia Muslims
A massive explosion occurred during afternoon prayer at the Sayyid Abad Mosque in Kunduz, Afghanistan’s northern province. A Taliban police official said at least 100 people were killed in the blast.
In the pictures that have surfaced on social media, it is seen that dead bodies are lying everywhere in the mosque. The news agency AFP quoted hospital sources as saying that at least 50 people have died.
So far no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Islamic State has intensified attacks in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over. The conflict between the two organizations is expected to escalate. Last Sunday, there was a blast outside a mosque in Kabul, killing at least 12 people and injuring 32.
