Since the Taliban’s capture of Kabul, preparations are on to form a new government in Afghanistan. The Taliban is soon to announce a government. The model of the Taliban government is going to be very similar to that of Iran. It is believed that the Afghan government will be headed by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. Reports suggest that the Taliban government will be formed in Afghanistan on the Iran model. Hibatullah Akhundzada
Akhundzada has been the head of the Taliban since 2016. Akhundzada was made his successor after Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor was killed in a US drone strike in 2016. He has been involved in Islamic resistance during the Soviet invasion period. He is more popular as a religious leader than as a military commander. Reports suggest that Akhundzada was the deputy head of the Supreme Court during the previous Taliban regime. After the fall of the Taliban in 2001, he was made the head of the Council of the Religious Scholars’ Group.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar
Baradar will be the biggest and most powerful leader after the Supreme Leader. Mane Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will head the Taliban government. Baradar was arrested by the US intelligence agency CIA and Pakistan in an operation in 2010. After this Baradar remained in Pakistan jail for 8 years. In 2018, Pakistan released him after US pressure. Baradar was then transferred to Qatar where Baradar was appointed the head of the Taliban’s political office in Doha. Here he signed the agreement that led the US military to withdraw its 20-year campaign.
Sirajuddin Haqqani
Sirajuddin heads the Haqqani network. Born in Pakistan, Haqqani’s network is equally influential in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Haqqani also heads the Taliban’s military strategy. Reports suggest that the Taliban has put Haqqani in charge of Kabul’s security since the capture of Kabul. US intelligence agencies have placed Haqqani in their most wanted list, which carries a bounty of about Rs 36 crore.
Anas Haqqani
Anas is a Taliban leader who has been a member of the Qatar-based negotiation team. Anas likes to write poems. Anas Haqqani is the brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani. Anas was arrested in 2014 but was later released in a prisoner exchange. Recently, Anas had visited the Afghanistan Cricket Board and said that he would do everything possible to promote cricket.
zabiullah mujahid
Zabiullah is currently the spokesman for the Taliban. Zabiullah appeared in public for the first time on 17 August 2021. Before this, he has been constantly presenting the side of the Taliban in front of the world. Zabiullah was appointed spokesman for the Taliban in 2007. He has previously fought with American and Afghan forces.
Suhail Shaheen
Suhail is also currently the spokesperson of the Taliban. He oversees the work of the spokesman for the Taliban’s political office in Qatar. He has been the Deputy Ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan. During the 1996-2001 Taliban government, he was the editor of the state-run newspaper Kabul Times. Suhail is well versed in many languages including Pashto, Urdu, English, Hindi.
Mohammed Yacob
Yakub is the son of Taliban founder Mohammad Omar. He is currently one of two deputy to Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada. Yakub has taken Islamic education in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. In 2016, Yakub was made the military chief of 15 territories of Afghanistan. It was only after this that Yakub was included in the Rehbari Shura, the Taliban’s top decision-making council. Reports suggest that Mohammad Yacoub has better ties with the Saudi Arabian royal family.
Sher Mohamed Abbas Tanekzai
58-year-old Sher Mohammad Abbas Tsatekzai is popularly known as Sheru among his friends. He was born in 1963 in the Logar province of Afghanistan. He has studied at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, India. After training from Dehradun, he has given training to Afghan soldiers. Sheru is currently the head of the Taliban’s Doha political office. Sheru has fought for the Taliban in the Soviet-Afghan War. Sheru was the deputy foreign minister during the Taliban rule in Afghanistan from 1996-2001. Media reports suggest that now he can be made foreign minister in the Taliban government.
