Al Qaeda will attack America again, Taliban will give strength: Former CIA director

New Delhi

Michael Morrell has been the director of the US intelligence agency CIA. He has spoken about the situation in Afghanistan and the Taliban . He has said that he is confident that the Taliban will summon al-Qaeda and give it shelter in Afghanistan. He has told, ‘There is no doubt in my mind. I believe that the Taliban will give al-Qaeda a safe haven and al-Qaeda will reinvent itself so that it can attack us.

Morrell has pointed out that counter-terrorism efforts tend to be in a pattern that can easily reduce their capabilities with a focused effort. But whenever the focus is weak, they are easily rebuilt. Talking about the years 2002-2003, he said that when the US shifted attention to Iraq, al-Qaeda carried out attacks in cities like London and Madrid.

He further explained that intelligence gathering could be difficult if al-Qaeda establishes safe havens in Afghanistan. In such a situation, there may also be problems in taking action against them. America must apply the lessons learned over the past 20 years.

Experts and analysts around the world believe that since the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan, the land of Afghanistan can be used to spread terror around the world. Apart from Taliban, organizations like Al-Qaeda, East Turkmenistan Islamic Movement, Haqqani Network, Islamic State of Khorasan, Tehreek-e-Taliban-Pakistan, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba have been active in Afghanistan. In such a situation, experts believe that Afghanistan is going to become a base for all these terrorist organizations again.
