In Pakistan , an accused of blasphemy was stoned to death by a mob. This incident is being told of Punjab province of Pakistan where a violent mob in a village lynched a middle-aged man on the charge of sacrilege of a religious book. Eyewitnesses gave this information on Sunday. Witnesses said the incident took place on Saturday evening in Jungle Dera village, where locals had gathered after their Maghrib prayers in view of the announcement that a man had torn pages of the Holy Quran and set them on fire.

According to these people, the police had reached the village before the incident, but the mob freed the victim from the custody of the station in-charge and tied her to a tree, after which she was beaten to death. The victim had reportedly claimed to be innocent, but the angry mob ignored his plea for mercy. The police officer said that after the murder, the body was hung on a tree.

During this, two policemen tried to intervene but the angry mob also attacked the policemen. According to the report of BBC Urdu, the deceased person has been identified as Mustaq Ahmed, who was a resident of Bara Chak village. In this case, the police have registered a case against 300 people and out of which 62 people have been arrested.

Punjab province Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has sought a report in this regard from the police, ordering a detailed inquiry into the incident. On the other hand, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted that those involved in this incident will be dealt with strictly. I have sought a report from the IG of Punjab in this matter.

There is a very strict blasphemy law in Pakistan against insulting Islam, under which there is a provision to give death penalty to the guilty. Civil rights activists say these laws are often used for revenge.

The tragic incident comes nearly two months after a Sri Lankan worker at a garment factory was killed and burnt to death by angry supporters of a radical Islamist party in Punjab province over allegations of blasphemy.
