Imran Khan said in gestures- women’s clothes responsible for rape, ex-wife reminded Quranic verses
Pakistan PM Imran Khan said that the curtain system in Islam is so that women can be saved from the evil eyes of the people.
Islamabad Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has recently made a statement after which women’s rights organizations in the neighboring country opened a front against him. Not only this, now his ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith has also tweeted on this issue. In an interview on live television last week, Khan, who has studied from Oxford, said that, as a result of increasing vulgarity in society, cases of rape are increasing. He said, ‘The incidents of rape of women have indeed increased very fast in the society.’ He advised women to keep themselves on the screen.
Khan said, “The curtain system in Islam is so that women can be saved from the evil eyes of the people.” During the interview, a person on TV asked Imran what his party’s government was doing to stop the increasing sexual violence on children and women in the country. On this, Imran said that some issues cannot be resolved through law. Society itself will have to avoid pornography. The crime of rape and sexual violence is spreading like cancer in the society.
What did Imran’s ex-wife say?
On this statement of Imran, Jemima said in the comment, “The responsibility lies on men.” He wrote, ‘It is up to men to stop such crimes.’ He also referred to the verse in the Quran in which men have been asked to control personal organs.
Hundreds of people signed a statement online Wednesday on Khan’s statement, terming the Pakistan PM’s remarks as ‘factually inaccurate, insensitive and dangerous’. Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission, an independent rights watchdog, said that people are ‘frightened’ by Imran Khan’s comments on Tuesday. The institution claimed in a statement that the Pakistan PM’s comment shows only the rape victims as accused.
